TJ wins contract to assist on major road resurfacing night project

TJ Transport won a contract to assist with haulage and muckaway services for a project to resurface one of Downend in Bristol’s busiest roads last month.

TJ was employed by National Road Planning to remove waste from and transport aggregates to the site on the A432 Badminton Road. The works, which took the month of March to complete, were undertaken at night between the hours of 8pm and 6am to minimise the disruption to road users.

TJ Transport has a portfolio of regular night work that they undertake and this is a thriving part of the business. Working at night holds many advantages including being able to utilise vehicles around the clock and working when the roads are quiet, which increases productivity as traffic is minimal.

One local resident who was pleasantly surprised by the minimal disruption to local life said: “All the vehicles and machines are very well illuminated with lights of many colours. I was impressed by the low level of noise – all you could hear was a low hum from the machines. What a difference in the road surface now – all smooth and quiet to drive on.”

This project is part of South Gloucestershire Council’s four-year, £174m road improvement programme.

TJ’s part in the project involved removing around 10,000 tonnes of used aggregate materials from the site, transporting it to a local quarry where it was repurposed and mixed with the asphalt (also known as closed loop recycling) which was then transported back to the site to be used as the new road surfacing.

TJ’s South West Depot & Out of Hours Manager, Kevin Longland said: “This was a great project to be involved in as it’s really made a difference to the local residents and road users. We’re pleased that we were able to do our part to ensure the project ran smoothly and was finished on time. We prioritise high service levels in all that we do and the fact that our nightwork portfolio is growing is testament to that.”

TJ Transport works closely with organisations in the transportation, infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, mining and agricultural sectors, offering haulage, muckaway and aggregate supply services, so if you have requirements in these areas, please get in touch for quotes and to discuss further.
