TJ takes on second phase of work at Skylark Golf & Country Club

TJ Transport is currently working on-site at Skylark Golf & Country Club, undertaking a project to build a new bund. This is required for safety reasons but has the added benefit of being aesthetically pleasing as well as more challenging for the golfers.

This work will provide a more attractive playing experience for golfers and a more challenging one too. The project commenced in October and is due for completion by the end of March.

TJ is utilising a range of vehicles and plant to undertake this work. We’ve transported approximately 17,000 tonnes of soil to the site using our 8 wheel tippers. On-site we’ve used excavators, dumpers  and a dozer to move the soil around and construct the bund, all of which are operated by TJ staff. Three members of staff make up the TJ team on-site.

The soil being used for this project has come from carefully selected regional construction sites where the clean inert material may otherwise be going to landfill. It will instead be tested, approved and reused on this project under CL:AIRE protocol. This soil is being used to carry out the mounding,  screening and shaping work required.

This work is the second phase of a longer-term project at the Club. TJ was first employed in 2019 to undertake the first phase which was to raise and improve a small bund that surrounds the existing compound to make it safer for greenstaff.

Skylark is located in Whiteley, Hampshire and first opened its doors in 2013. Known for its exquisitely maintained course and strategically placed bunkers, the 18-hole course is 5609 yards, with a par 69. It comprises 39 bunkers, tough par 3’s and postage stamp greens. In addition to the golf course, the club also has an award-winning restaurant, a health club & spa and is a popular wedding and event venue.

South East Depot & Haulage Contract Manager, Dan Shortt, who is managing the project said: “We were thrilled to be invited back to take on this second phase of work. The Club was very happy with the work we completed for them in 2019 and we’ve built strong relationships with both the management team and the Greenkeepers. They trust us to get the job done well and to ensure all their requirements are taken care of.

“The winter weather has presented many challenges, but we’ve worked hard to ensure that the project keeps ticking along and that we’re on track for successful completion by the end of March before the peak golf and wedding season kicks off.”

TJ has built up a great deal of expertise in golf club improvement projects such as this in recent years, with successful projects being carried out at Stoneham Golf Club and Littlehampton Golf Club. The same operational team are  working on this project, bringing with them their extensive knowledge and experience to ensure a complete and thorough job is delivered.
