BUTSER ROCK CHALK UTILISED TO BUILD NOISE BUND

TJ Transport is supplying Butser rock chalk to engineering groundworks company BCT Services (South) Ltd who have been tasked with creating a noise bund to shield Worthing residents from the neighbouring A27.

So far we’ve supplied around 6,000 tonnes of chalk, which equated to over 300 loads. Further orders are expected as the project progresses and our fleet of tipper lorries will be ready and waiting to deliver more loads as and when they’re required.

The chalk being supplied is a mix of crushed and as dug chalk, both of which are ideal for this type of project. Our rock chalk is often utilised within the construction industry due to its strength, versatility, porous quality and cost-effectiveness.

Butser rock chalk is sourced from our quarry in Butser, Petersfield. It’s chalk that is akin to limestone rather than standard chalk, meaning it’s a very strong and hard-wearing material. It’s also one of the most competitively-priced primary aggregates around making it a very attractive option.

BCT are carrying out the work for Taylor Wimpey, who recently completed a new housing estate at Barley Grange, West Durrington in Worthing.

BCT, who are based in Segensworth, Fareham, are a long-standing client of ours, utilising our haulage and aggregate supply services regularly as part of their week-to-week projects.

TJ Commercial Manager Paul Smith said: “BCT approached us for a Class 1A fill and after a consultation process with BCT’s geotechnical consultants RSK and our testing provider Oema, 1A chalk was approved. Our chalk is ideal for this purpose as it’s a natural material which satisfies developer’s sustainability requirements and it’s a cost-effective option too.”
