Tallulah joined TJ last month to assist with the transport logistics for the Tarmac and Cemex contracts. In her spare time (when there isn’t a pandemic!) Tallulah enjoys socialising with friends. She and her partner bought their first house last autumn and are looking forward to hosting gatherings when restrictions lift.
I’m still undergoing training at the moment, but once I’m fully up and running I’ll be responsible for coordinating our vehicles – tippers, grabs and artics – and the drivers’ schedules for all jobs relating to our Tarmac and Cemex contracts. Over the past few weeks I’ve been familiarising myself with TJ’s three IT systems, getting to know how the company works and learning how to undertake the various tasks that will make up my day-to-day role.
The IT set-up is really up-to-date and when I was struggling to view the three different systems on my screen, my manager purchased a new, much larger screen so I could view it all with ease, which was a really nice touch and gives me a great feel for the type of company TJ is, with employee wellbeing in mind.
My colleague Chris has been helping me learn the ropes, he’s been very helpful, especially considering how busy a time it is right now and I really appreciate his support.
I was working as a practice manager for a medical practice prior to joining TJ, but I wanted to go for a complete change of direction with a role that would really challenge me. I saw this job advertised last year and it gave me the idea of working in construction as I liked the sound of the role. I kept my eye on TJ over the course of last year and was impressed with how they performed during lockdown and throughout the pandemic. When I saw another position come up in the new year, I did some more research and decided I definitely wanted to work for TJ – so I applied and was successful!
I’m anticipating that my role will help facilitate many large projects and I’m sure the part I will play in that will be rewarding. I also think that each day that goes smoothly – with all jobs scheduled and executed successfully – will in itself be hugely satisfying, especially with all the hard work that goes into getting the schedule just right.
This initial learning curve is pretty challenging as there’s a lot to learn about the industry, the job itself and the logistics of it all. I’m looking forward to being fully confident in how to make it work, how to best plan the drivers’ routes, judging which drivers to reroute when new urgent tasks come in and so on.
I want to work my way up to become a highly confident and competent coordinator by the end of the year. I want to increase my knowledge and expertise so that I’m on a par with my colleagues, someone that people won’t hesitate to approach to get the job done and most importantly, someone they can rely on.
Everyone is lovely and they’ve all been so friendly and welcoming since I joined. The management are really flexible and understanding and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable as a newcomer. My team has been very helpful and it’s nice to be in this sort of environment.
