Lisa started this role in September 2020 and says TJ is a great company to work for. Outside of work, Lisa is very family-orientated and loves spending time with her three children and two grandchildren. She also enjoys socialising with friends – when there isn’t a pandemic of course!
What does your role involve?
It’s incredibly busy and varied. My overall role is to help ensure the smooth running of the transport office on a daily basis, carrying out a range of tasks. These include answering phone and email enquiries, processing quotes and orders and undertaking all the sales admin. I deal with a range of customers big and small; new customers using TJ for the first time as well as long-term customers who’ve been working with TJ for many years. I’ve only been doing the role for five months so I’m still learning but enjoying every minute!
What is your career background?
I’ve done many different jobs over the years, from working in retail to running my own business. I’ve built up a range of skills and experience during that time, all of which are transferable to other roles. The organisational skills I developed whilst running my own business have been invaluable. Plus after having your own company, it makes you appreciate someone else’s more as you know how much hard work it takes to keep it running smoothly.
What is the most rewarding part of the job?
I generate dozens of quotes each week, so when I see that quotes that I’ve issued have been taken up by the customer, it’s very rewarding. It’s great to think that something I’ve done has helped secure a sale for the company and it makes me feel like I’m really doing my part.
The biggest challenges?

This role is quite different to anything I’ve done before so it’s been quite a steep learning curve and I’m still learning! There’s a lot of variety, which is great for keeping it interesting, but that also means there are a lot of different elements to get to grips with. That said, each task that I secure and feel confident in doing is another achievement for me and that in itself is extremely satisfying.
What are your aims for the next year?
I want to continue developing my knowledge and ability and to enable me to do a good job. I’d like to build my skills so that I am 100% confident in each and every task within the role and that all the procedures are second nature to me. TJ installed a new software system last year to improve their customer experience, so I’d love to be fluent in using that by the end of the year too.
What do you like most about working for TJ?
TJ is a really friendly company and everyone makes you feel welcome. They really care about their staff and they look after you – something not many companies do. The people are lovely and I enjoy coming into work, it’s that simple!
