Aggregate supply

TJ has been sourcing and delivering aggregates since the beginning, first by sourcing the materials that clients requested and later by taking a more active role in identifying the best aggregates for the job at hand.

As the years have gone on, we’ve built our expertise in the dozens of different aggregates available to enable us to advise clients on the best materials to use. As different aggregates have been identified, we’ve discovered the best places to source them from, keeping affordability and eco-friendly factors in mind.

We’ve built up a huge network of partners over the years, building up trust with them as we go, so we know we can rely on them to provide us with the highest quality products on the market. This in turn gives our customers the peace of mind that they are buying the best and that the integrity of their projects is a priority.

Many of our sourced aggregates come from the South West region where many quarries are located. We choose to source from here rather than going further afield to keep transportation distances to a minimum, which will in turn mean less carbon emissions as well as lower prices for our customers.

2017-2018

In 2017, two opportunities were identified that would enable us to supply our own Hampshire-based materials for Hampshire-based projects. We acquired the two sites – Hythe Quarry (Forest Lodge site) in Southampton and Butser Quarry in Petersfield the same year.

By 2018, the sites were ready for quarrying to commence. Hythe Quarry gives us a good supply of soft sand and gravel. The sand is ideal for blinding, bedding, general fill, mortar and plastering, as well as cattle bedding sand. The gravel can be used for onward screening/washing, bedding and drainage fill.

Butser Quarry is a chalk pit, which  gives us access to rock chalk, which can be utilised in many forms including crushed chalk, ‘as dug’ chalk, gabion rock chalk and agglime chalk. As well as being very strong, rock chalk is also porous, which makes it ideal for construction projects where good drainage is key.

At Butser we also produce several recycled aggregates, which are made from unwanted rubble and hardcore, and ideal for bulk fill. We offer free disposal of rubble and hardcore for businesses at Butser – to unload, you simply need to hold a waste carrier’s licence and be wearing a hard hat, hi-vis top and steel toed boots to ensure your safety.
